Dialogue For Diversity is committed to the reform of the Church.
In the first place this means the Roman Catholic church. Because we are committed to ecumenism we hope other church members will help with this aim.
Many Catholics and others have been appalled at the church’s response to abuse which led to further abuse of children. We welcome the progress made in this area, both in recognising, vindicating and acknowledging the deep harm caused by abuse, and also by putting in place strong safeguarding protocols.
Discrimination against women remains widespread, especially the ban on people from ordination simply because they are women.
The recent moves towards synodality, in which the primary gift of all Catholics is recognised to be baptism is welcome because it gives at least the beginnings of a voice to the Church – that is all the baptised members.
Many also believe this response is connected with current Church structures because they see the response made more likely by patriarchy, clericalism, deference and lack of accountability. They find the same qualities in our church structures.
Dialogue For Diversity will raise questions about these issues and invite others to do the same.
